  1. There’s a reason our two most nutty northern holidays (Halloween and April Fool’s Day) occur when the days are so rapidly changing from long to short, and short to long. We try to live stable lives, and the sudden sunshine of the spring and deepening darkness of the autumn destabilizes us. Change is trauma, and the staid are disturbed like hens with ruffled feathers. But poets? I think they sort of like it.
